Mother’s Day is a celebration, a chance to say thank you to mums and female carers for everything they do. It’s a day often marked by thoughtful gestures, but for some mums and carers that we support, this day can feel very different. Without a support network or the financial means to celebrate, the simple joys of Mother’s Day may seem out of reach. Yet, for these mums, the meaning of the day remains just as important to them.
Each year, our A Gift For Mum campaign calls on the community to come together and provide thoughtful, pampering gifts that remind mums they are valued. Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to make up 707 of our signature orange bags filled with brand new toiletries and a hand-written card for mums and carers in Surrey and Croydon. Each bag is thoughtfully made up to give mums permission to take a well-deserved moment for themselves, a rare and precious opportunity for some.
Our referral partners work closely with the families we support and they play a key role in ensuring that the Mother’s Day gift bags reach the mums who need them most. These partners are collecting the bags on behalf of mums who might otherwise not be celebrating the day due to difficult circumstances. By distributing the gift bags directly to the families they support, they help us deliver the message that these mums are valued and deserving of recognition. It’s a small but meaningful gesture that lets them know they are not forgotten.
The true importance of our A Gift For Mum campaign was brought home to us recently when one of our referral partners spoke to a visiting corporate group. She was collecting gifts for the mums she supports and shared just how much these gestures mean, not just to the mums but to their children too.
For children over the age of four, she carefully hands them the gift bag to ‘hide’ until Mother’s Day, giving them the special responsibility of presenting it at just the right moment. It’s a simple act, but one filled with meaning. Every child should have the chance to ‘give’ and to show their love and appreciation.
She told us how, on the Monday after Mother’s Day, children at school chat excitedly about what they did for their mums, stepmums, grandmothers and carers. Thanks to A Gift For Mum, the children she supports can be part of those conversations too by proudly sharing their own moments of giving.
It’s a special campaign made possible by the generosity of our supporters. On behalf of the mums and children who benefit, she expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone who makes it happen.
Delivering this campaign wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our volunteers. Over the last few weeks our regular volunteers have worked alongside our corporate volunteers to ensure that each gift bag was thoughtfully packed, with attention to detail that reflected how much we wanted mums and carers to feel appreciated. It was a real team effort, and the result was hundreds of beautifully prepared bags, ready to bring a little joy and comfort to the mums and carers receiving them.
Thank you to Monty’s Bakehouse, LNRS, Naked Ideas, Total Energies, Unum and WTW who used the corporate volunteering sessions to help sort the donations, make up the gift bags and hand write the Mother’s Day cards.
This campaign is entirely driven by donations, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed. Many of you brought items to our warehouse while dropping off other donations, and lots of our volunteers arrived for their sessions with beautiful toiletries in hand. Others helped spread the word by sharing our wish list with friends and family, leading to even more thoughtful contributions. Every donation played a part in making this campaign a success, and we truly appreciate the generosity shown by all.
The Belfry Shopping Centre in Redhill helped boost our campaign by serving as a convenient drop-off point for donations. Situated on the ground floor, it made it easy for shoppers to contribute and raised awareness about our efforts. A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported us through this collection point.
Our Amazon wish list once again proved to be a popular way for supporters to get involved in our campaign. Regularly updated with a range of gifts to suit every budget, it made donating simple and effective. With items arriving quickly and directly to us, we were able to sort through the generous donations and create beautifully put together gift bags, ready to bring a smile to the mums who received them. We received some lovely messages with the Amazon parcels, one in particular really captured the meaning behind our A Gift For Mum campaign:
Even when it’s hard, and you don’t think you can go on – remember to your child you are the world and they wouldn’t change you for the world. Happy Mother’s Day
Beauty Banks and The Hygiene Bank support us throughout the year but their donations in the run up to Mother’s Day are especially appreciated. Without them we wouldn’t have enough toiletries to make up the bags that we need. Thank you to them for their ongoing support.
We are always blown away by the lengths that some people go to to support our campaigns. Special shout out to the following:
LNRS organised an ‘A Gift For Mum’ wrapping and packing event at their Sutton office. They prepared 60 bags, each thoughtfully packed with lovely Sanctuary Spa items and a handwritten card.
A gift for mum is such a fantastic initiative and one we are very proud to support you with.

Unum in Dorking continue to support us as part of their ongoing charity partnership with us. They organised a collection of toiletries at their offices and brought them along when they came for a volunteering session where they made up gift bags and wrote some lovely Mother’s Day cards.
A Gift For mum is a campaign that really resonated with our young supporters and we are so grateful that Banstead Prep School and First Steps Nursery held collections for us.
Reigate Squash Club had a lot of fun at their doubles fundraiser and collected toiletry donations and cash donations for A Gift For Mum, all which helped us to increase the number of gift bags we could provide.
The Nourishment Academy are a female only gym in Godstone and they wanted to be able to celebrate and support women in March as part of International Women’s day. They organised a collection of toiletries which they donated to us for our Mother’s Day campaign.
The wonderful ladies at the Horley WI invited us along to their meeting and presented us with a lovely amount of toiletries to add to the gift bags we were making up.
Finally, from everyone at Team Stork, we’d like to wish all the mums we support a very Happy Mother’s Day. We hope you feel appreciated today and always—you truly deserve it.
